Diaspora PS Urges Kenyans Abroad to Rekindle Ties with Home

Principal Secretary for Diaspora Affairs, Ms. Roseline K. Njogu, has called on Kenyans living abroad to strengthen their connection with their homeland and ensure that their children maintain a sense of belonging to Kenya.

Speaking during a diaspora engagement meeting with the Kenyan community in Chelmsford, Massachusetts, Ms. Njogu emphasized the importance of nurturing cultural identity among the younger generation, even as families establish themselves in their host countries.

“As you build your lives here, remember to bring your children home. Show them what a great country we have,” said the PS, urging parents to give their children firsthand experiences of Kenya beyond stories and traditions.

The meeting, held on the sidelines of the Global Ageing Network Conference in Boston, was part of the PS’s ongoing efforts to engage with Kenyans abroad and strengthen diaspora relations.

Ms. Njogu noted that maintaining strong links with Kenya goes beyond cultural preservation — it also lays the groundwork for future investment and national development.

She reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting the Kenyan diaspora, citing the establishment of the Diaspora Investment Support Office (DISO) as one of the initiatives designed to streamline investment processes and encourage participation in the country’s growth.

“The State Department for Diaspora Affairs is working to ensure that Kenyans abroad and their families feel welcomed, valued, and connected to the nation’s progress,” she said.

The event, organized by the State Department for Diaspora Affairs in partnership with Equity Bank Kenya, provided a platform for discussions on issues such as welfare, investment opportunities, and skills and knowledge transfer between Kenyans abroad and home.
