Suspected Drug Peddler Arrested in Mariakani with Bhang and Machetes
Police officers in Mariakani have arrested a suspected drug peddler found in possession of cannabis and offensive weapons, following a public tip-off in the Mkwajuni area of Mariakani Township.
According to a statement from the National Police Service (NPS), the arrest occurred on October 11, 2025, during a routine patrol by officers from Mariakani Police Station. The officers received intelligence from members of the public regarding suspicious activities linked to drug trafficking.
Acting swiftly on the information, the officers traced the suspect to his location and conducted a search. During the operation, they recovered 12 rolls of a substance suspected to be cannabis sativa, commonly known as bhang, and two machetes, which are classified as offensive weapons under Kenyan law.
The suspect was immediately taken into custody and is being held at the Mariakani Police Station. The recovered items have been secured as exhibits and will be processed as part of the ongoing investigation. The suspect is expected to be arraigned in court once formal charges are prepared.
The National Police Service commended the officers involved for their quick response and professionalism, which led to the successful arrest without incident.
“This operation demonstrates the effectiveness of community policing and the power of public cooperation in fighting crime,” read the NPS statement. “We thank members of the public for the timely information that enabled us to intercept and apprehend the suspect.”
NPS has reiterated its commitment to intensifying the fight against drug trafficking, a vice that continues to undermine the health and safety of Kenyan communities, especially youth.
“The Service will continue to carry out intelligence-led operations to disrupt drug networks and bring offenders to justice,” the statement added.
Authorities are urging citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities in their neighborhoods to the nearest police stations or through anonymous hotlines.
The arrest is the latest in a series of ongoing efforts by security agencies to crack down on the distribution and use of illegal drugs across the country.
