PS Shadrack Mwadime Leads Mazingira Day Tree Planting at Mwanyambo Primary School, Voi

The Principal Secretary for Labour and Skills Development, Hon. Shadrack Mwadime, on Friday joined students, alumni, and members of the community at Mwanyambo Primary School, Voi, to mark Mazingira Day 2025 through an extensive tree planting exercise.

Over 1,300 tree seedlings were planted within the school compound, while an additional 1,000 seedlings were distributed to local community members to encourage wider participation in environmental restoration efforts.

To ensure a sustainable water supply for the newly planted trees and to benefit the surrounding community, PS Mwadime pledged to facilitate the drilling of a borehole at the school.

The event was attended by Taita Taveta Deputy Governor H.E. Saru Kilalo, County Commissioner Josephine Onunga, and County Woman Representative Hon. Lydia Haika, among other local leaders.

While addressing the gathering, PS Mwadime encouraged the youth to take advantage of the Nyota Project, an initiative under his Ministry aimed at empowering skilled young Kenyans through grants and certification. He urged eligible applicants to apply through the USSD code *254# before the application window closes on October 12, 2025.

The PS also emphasized the importance of the Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) program, which seeks to formally recognize the skills and competencies of more than 20,000 youth across the country.

“By recognizing prior learning and supporting youth with financial and technical resources, we are promoting self-employment, improving productivity, and ensuring that skilled Kenyans can fully participate in the labour market,” said PS Mwadime.

The Mazingira Day event underscored the Ministry’s commitment to environmental conservation, skills development, and youth empowerment as key pillars of sustainable national growth.
