Kibra MP’s Driver Fined Ksh 100,000 or 12 Months in Jail After Speeding Incident
George Oduor, the driver of Kibra Member of Parliament, found himself on the wrong side of the law after being fined Ksh 100,000 or face 12 months in jail by the Milimani Law Courts for a traffic offence.
Appearing before Senior Principal Magistrate Rose Ndombi, Oduor pleaded guilty to the charges, admitting that he had violated traffic laws while rushing the MP to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport.
The court heard that Oduor was apprehended for reckless driving and disregarding traffic regulations — an offence he committed while transporting the legislator in what he described as an “urgent situation.”
“I was rushing Mheshimiwa to the airport,” Oduor told the court, begging for leniency and explaining that it was his first time committing an offence.
The court, while noting Oduor’s clean record and his expression of remorse, nonetheless emphasized the need to uphold road safety and discipline, especially among drivers entrusted with public figures.
“You may have been under pressure, but the law does not exempt anyone,” Magistrate Ndombi ruled. “Your actions endangered other road users. Let this be a lesson to you and others in similar positions.”
