Executive Roundtable on Labour Migration Highlights Kenya’s Leadership Under PS Shadrack Mwadime
Monday: The Executive Roundtable on Labour Migration, held on Monday, highlighted Kenya’s growing leadership in promoting fair, safe, and productive labour migration across the region.
The high-level forum was convened by the Principal Secretary for Labour and Skills Development, Hon. Shadrack Mwadime, in partnership with the International Labour Organization (ILO) Director for the East Africa Office, Ms. Caroline Mugalla. It brought together leaders from both the public and private sectors to discuss global, continental, and regional labour migration trends.
The discussions focused on strengthening Kenya’s labour migration framework, promoting fair recruitment, and enhancing the protection and welfare of migrant workers. Participants praised Hon. Mwadime’s visionary leadership and his unwavering commitment to building a robust, people-centered labour migration system that safeguards Kenyan workers abroad.
Hon. Mwadime underscored the importance of sustained investment — both financially and technically — in the Ministry of Labour to effectively manage migration programs and establish resilient systems that support Kenyan workers overseas.
The meeting also reviewed the progress achieved under PS Mwadime’s leadership, including policy reforms, bilateral labour agreements, and strategic partnerships aimed at creating safe, structured, and productive migration pathways.
The International Labour Organization (ILO) commended Kenya for its strong leadership in labour governance, reaffirming its commitment to continued collaboration in advancing decent work, fair migration, and inclusive growth across the region.
Through Hon. Mwadime’s proactive and results-driven approach, Kenya continues to set a regional benchmark in labour migration management, ensuring that the welfare and rights of Kenyan workers remain central to the nation’s economic transformation.
