CS Ruku Urges Peaceful Campaigns in Mbeere North, Warns Against Corruption
Public Service Cabinet Secretary Geoffrey Ruku has urged leaders to lead by example and maintain peace as campaigns for the Mbeere North by election continue.
Speaking in Embu, Ruku said it was disappointing to see some leaders turning politics into drama instead of focusing on the needs of the people.
“This is shameful. Leaders must rise above political theatrics and set an example for peace, especially as we approach the Mbeere North byelection,” Ruku said.
He called on the opposition to conduct peaceful and issue campaigns, noting that residents already know who they want to lead them. Ruku expressed confidence in the UDA candidate, Leo Muriuki wa Muthende, describing him as a leader who will continue the development work started earlier in the constituency.
The CS also praised the Imarisha Elimu programme for helping students perform better in schools and accused the opposition of trying to frustrate bursary distribution.
“This is the kind of politics Kenyans must reject politics that denies children education and development just to attack the government,” he said.
Ruku highlighted several ongoing projects, including plans to tarmac the Gikuyari Kirii Ishiara road and expand electricity access through the Last Mile Connectivity Project, saying these efforts aim to improve safety and support learning in rural areas.
He also sent a stern warning to corrupt officers in public service, saying his ministry will take firm action against those manipulating payroll systems for illegal benefits.
Ruku concluded by urging leaders to put citizens interests first and avoid divisive politics that could threaten peace in the region.
