"I Am Going for the Senate Seat!" – Former Emgwen MP Alex Kosgey Dismisses 2027 Parliamentary Bid Rumours
Former Emgwen Member of Parliament Alex Kosgey has firmly dismissed speculation that he is eyeing a return to the National Assembly in the 2027 General Election, instead affirming his intention to run for the Nandi County Senate seat.
Speaking during a public function in Kapsabet on Wednesday, Kosgey broke his silence on the swirling political rumours, making it clear that his focus is now on the Senate.
"Let me put it to rest once and for all—I am not going back to the parliamentary seat. I am going for the Senate seat in 2027," Kosgey declared to a cheering crowd.
Kosgey, who served as Emgwen MP between 2013 and 2022, said his decision is driven by a desire to play a more active role in oversight and legislation at the county level, citing the need for stronger leadership in the Senate.
"Our county needs a firm voice and experienced leadership in the Senate. I believe I bring both to the table," he added.
His announcement comes amid rising political activity in the region, with several leaders already positioning themselves for various seats ahead of the next general election. Kosgey's entry into the senatorial race is expected to shake up the current political landscape, potentially setting up a showdown with incumbent Senator Samson Cherargei—should the latter seek re-election.
Analysts see Kosgey's move as a strategic re-entry into national politics, leveraging his past experience and deep political roots in the region. A son of veteran politician and former Cabinet Minister Henry Kosgey, Alex Kosgey has long been seen as a significant figure in Rift Valley politics.
