St. George’s University and Legae Academy Partner to Boost Medical Education Opportunities in Botswana

In a landmark move aimed at expanding access to global medical education, St. George’s University (SGU) School of Medicine in Grenada, West Indies, has entered into a three-year partnership with Legae Academy, a premier secondary school in Gaborone, Botswana.

The collaboration is designed to create a streamlined pathway for aspiring medical students from Legae Academy to apply and transition into SGU’s medical degree programs. This initiative is part of SGU’s broader mission to address the global shortage of doctors, particularly across Africa.

With 130 medical graduates from Botswana and 64 students from the country currently enrolled at SGU, the university is deepening its commitment to cultivating healthcare talent in Botswana and the wider region. Students from Legae Academy who are accepted into SGU’s Four-Year MD Program, as well as its 5-, 6-, or 7-Year MD tracks, will receive a range of benefits to support their journey.

“This partnership with Legae Academy reaffirms SGU’s longstanding commitment to empowering future healthcare professionals in Botswana,” said *Bradley Wade*, Regional Director of Recruitment at SGU. “Students from Legae Academy who gain admission to SGU will enjoy benefits from the affiliation, such as partial scholarships for self-funded students, a guaranteed interview scheme, and access to SGU’s Global Medic Club—an online platform featuring exclusive educational content.”

Legae Academy, founded in 1992, offers internationally certified education through the Cambridge IGCSE and A-level curricula. The school has built a strong reputation over more than three decades, with students regularly outperforming global averages in international private school examinations.

“We are excited about this partnership with St. George’s University,” said

*Easo Oommen*, School Principal at Legae Academy. “This collaboration is a significant step forward, as it will inspire many of our students to pursue careers in medicine, ultimately benefiting our communities. The partnership reflects our dedication to providing our students with better global opportunities to further their education and enhance their careers.”

This strategic alliance underscores a shared vision between SGU and Legae Academy: to cultivate a new generation of healthcare professionals equipped to make meaningful contributions to Botswana’s healthcare system and the continent as a whole.
