Principal Secretary for the State Department for Diaspora Affairs, Roseline Njogu, has reaffirmed the government’s unwavering commitment to the safety and welfare of Kenyans abroad, following the successful evacuation of the first group of citizens from Iran.
The group touched down at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, where they were warmly received by officials from the Diaspora Affairs Department. The evacuation comes amid growing tensions in the region, prompting urgent diplomatic and logistical action from the government.
PS Njogu praised the seamless collaboration that made the operation possible. “We are grateful for the tireless efforts of our multi-agency team in Nairobi and the exceptional dedication of our embassy staff in Tehran and Ankara,” she stated. “The evacuation of Kenyans from Iran is ongoing, and we remain fully committed to ensuring that all our nationals are safely returned.”
Under her leadership, the State Department has intensified its engagement in proactive diaspora management, including swift response mechanisms for emergencies involving Kenyans overseas. The latest mission highlights the department’s role not only as a custodian of diaspora interests but also as a lifeline during times of crisis.
The Principal Secretary also extended her gratitude to the Ministry of Foreign and Diaspora Affairs, under the guidance of Prime Cabinet Secretary Hon Musalia Mudavadi, for its overarching diplomatic support that continues to facilitate such operations.
This successful evacuation underscores the importance of a well-coordinated foreign policy and robust diaspora engagement infrastructure. PS Njogu continues to demonstrate her ability to mobilize national and international support in moments of urgency, further solidifying Kenya’s global image as a nation that cares for its people, wherever they may be.
With further evacuations expected, the State Department remains vigilant, working around the clock to monitor the situation and ensure that no Kenyan is left behind.
