Police Seize Bhang, Detain Vehicle After High-Speed Chase in Narok County
A dramatic police operation in Narok East Sub-County has resulted in the seizure of a vehicle and a significant quantity of cannabis sativa, commonly known as bhang, as the National Police Service intensifies its fight against drug trafficking.
On the evening of Monday, July 1, 2025, officers from Ntulele Police Station intercepted a Toyota Land Cruiser Prado suspected of ferrying narcotics from Kisii to Nairobi. However, the driver defied police orders to stop, prompting a high-speed chase along the busy Narok–Mai Mahiu Highway.
The pursuit ended when the suspect vehicle developed mechanical issues and was abandoned along the Nairegie Enkare feeder road. Its two occupants escaped on foot into nearby maize plantations and remain at large.
A search of the vehicle led to the recovery of three sacks containing 600 brooms of bhang, which police believe were destined for distribution in Nairobi.
Both the vehicle and the narcotics are now secured at Ntulele Police Station as investigations continue. Police say efforts to apprehend the suspects are ongoing.
In a statement, the National Police Service commended the officers for their swift response and thanked the public for their continued vigilance.
“The National Police Service commends the public for their vigilance and urges ongoing cooperation in the fight against drug trafficking. We remain committed to disrupting criminal drug networks across the country,” the statement read.
This interception adds to a growing list of recent anti-narcotics successes as security agencies crack down on trafficking routes between western Kenya and urban centers.
