Kirinyaga Speaker Muteti Murimi Champions Youth Engagement Through Civic Education

The Speaker of the Kirinyaga County Assembly, Hon Muteti Murimi, has once again demonstrated his unwavering commitment to youth empowerment and civic education. The County Assembly hosted students from St. Phillips Baricho Secondary School for an educational visit designed to offer them firsthand exposure to the legislative process.

The students had the opportunity to observe live plenary proceedings, witnessing how Members of the County Assembly (MCAs) debate and vote on key issues impacting the county. This real-world experience brought classroom theories to life and deepened their understanding of governance and public policy.

Following the session, the students engaged in an interactive discussion with MCAs, including Hon Thomas Mwangi Muriuki of Múkúre Ward, alongside Hon Gichangi Bosco and Hon James Wambu. The lawmakers shared insights on the Assembly’s core functions—lawmaking, oversight, and representation—and highlighted the role of education in preparing youth to participate meaningfully in the country’s development.

Speaker Muteti Murimi emphasized the importance of such engagements in shaping responsible and informed citizens. “Our responsibility as leaders goes beyond policy. We must also mentor and guide the youth, helping them see their place in nation-building,” he remarked.

He reiterated the Assembly’s dedication to fostering civic awareness by opening its doors to educational institutions and ensuring that students understand their role in democratic processes. According to him, exposing young minds to how government institutions operate builds confidence, cultivates leadership, and instills a sense of civic duty.
