End of an Era? Moses Kuria Resigns, Hints at New Personal Mission
Moses Kuria has formally exited government, bringing to a close a significant chapter in his public service career. In a statement released this evening, the outspoken former Cabinet Secretary announced that he has met with President William Ruto, who has “graciously accepted” his decision to resign from government service.
Kuria, who has held several key positions under the Ruto administration, expressed gratitude to the Head of State for entrusting him with senior roles over the past three years. He served as Cabinet Secretary for Investments, Trade and Industry for 11 months, later moving to Public Service, Delivery and Performance Management for 9 months, and most recently serving as Senior Economic Advisor to the President for 10 months.
“I thank President Ruto for having given me an opportunity to serve. It has been a fulfilling journey,” Kuria said.
Reflecting on his time in government, Kuria said he was proud of his contributions to the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA) — a key pillar of the Kenya Kwanza administration’s 2022 election platform. He noted that he played a central role in crafting the economic blueprint alongside the President.
“As I move on to pursue personal interests, I am proud of the work the President and I did to implement the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda which I designed together with the President,” Kuria stated.
Though he did not disclose the specifics of his next move, Kuria’s resignation has fueled speculation that he may be preparing for a political comeback, possibly ahead of the 2027 general elections. His departure comes amid growing political realignments in the Mount Kenya region.
Ending his statement on a patriotic note, Kuria said simply: “Long live Kenya.”
His exit marks the end of a dynamic tenure in public office, but by all indications, Kuria’s political journey is far from over.
