Bishops Lead Memorial Mass Honoring Late Fr. Allois Cheruiyot Bet in Tot Parish
A solemn atmosphere of prayer and reflection filled Tot Parish in the heart of Kerio Valley as faithful gathered for a special memorial Mass in honor of the late Fr. Allois Cheruiyot Bet, a beloved priest remembered for his unwavering service to God and community.
The Eucharistic celebration was led by the Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Eldoret, Rt. Rev. Dominic Kimengich, alongside Bishop-Elect John Kiplimo Lelei of the newly formed Catholic Diocese of Kapsabet. The two prelates joined local clergy, religious, and hundreds of parishioners in a moving liturgy that paid tribute to Fr. Bet’s pastoral legacy.
“This is not just a day of mourning, but of thanksgiving,” Bishop Kimengich said during his homily. “Fr. Allois dedicated his life to the Gospel and stood with this community through joys and challenges alike. Today we honor his memory and pray that his soul may rest in eternal peace.”
Fr. Bet served at Tot Parish until his passing, leaving behind a legacy of deep faith, humility, and pastoral dedication, particularly among the people of the Kerio Valley. Known for his compassion and tireless work in fostering peace and unity in a region often marked by inter-community tensions, Fr. Bet was remembered as a shepherd who walked closely with his flock.
Bishop-Elect Lelei, speaking during the Mass, noted that Fr. Bet's ministry left an indelible mark not only on the parish but on the wider diocese. “He was a man of peace, of prayer, and of the people. His memory will continue to inspire us, especially as we move forward in building stronger, faith-filled communities,” he said.
The memorial Mass brought together not only Catholics but also leaders from other denominations, local elders, and civil authorities, reflecting the late priest’s wide-reaching influence.
As hymns of hope and thanksgiving echoed through the valley, parishioners lit candles and offered prayers at a special shrine set up in Fr. Bet’s memory — a poignant reminder of a life fully devoted to the mission of Christ.
Fr. Allois Cheruiyot Bet’s life and ministry continue to be a beacon of hope and faith in the Catholic Church in Kenya, particularly among the communities he so faithfully served.
