Babu Owino Rallies Gen-Z

Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino has issued a passionate and defiant call to Kenya’s youth, declaring that the days of silence and suffering are over. Speaking in the heart of Nairobi’s CBD amid ongoing Gen-Z protests, the youthful legislator hailed the nationwide demonstrations as the beginning of a new era in Kenya’s political and social awakening.

“Brothers and sisters, the time for silence is over. We are not victims of this corrupt system — we are the authors of change,” Babu said, addressing a crowd gathered at what he described as “the frontline of a generational revolution.”

Babu Owino, known for his unapologetic and fiery speeches, aligned himself fully with the demands raised by protesting youth: an end to government impunity, a solution to rising unemployment, accountability for public funds, and immediate relief from the unbearable cost of living.

“Let them hear us. Let them feel the power of unity. This is not just about unga or fuel. This is about dignity. It’s about a system that benefits a few while the majority suffer. And today, we say enough is enough,” Babu thundered.

A Generation Awakens

The protests — largely driven by Gen-Z youth and students — have spread across major cities and towns, fuelled by frustration over economic hardship, heavy taxation, and a political elite seen as detached and self-serving. Babu Owino, long a vocal critic of the ruling Kenya Kwanza administration, declared that this movement is not just a protest — it is a "revolution of consciousness."

“We are the voice of a generation that refuses to settle for injustice. The youth of Kenya are no longer asleep. The system has failed us for too long, but we have risen — not with violence, but with courage, conviction, and unity,” he said.

Message to the Government

The Embakasi East MP warned the government against using force to silence peaceful demonstrators, reminding the administration that the Constitution protects the right to protest.

“This is not a riot — it is a constitutional expression of the will of the people. Any attempt to brutalize the youth will only fan the flames. If the government wants peace, it must listen — not shoot.”

Babu also cautioned the leadership against dismissing the protests as misguided or politically sponsored, saying such narratives only serve to inflame tensions.

“The people you see in the streets are not thugs. They are students, hustlers, unemployed graduates, mothers, and fathers — all united by pain. To ignore them is to ignore Kenya,” he said.

A Vision for the Future

Calling for immediate policy reforms, including lowering taxes, increasing youth employment programs, and restoring public trust in institutions, Babu Owino insisted that Kenya must now pivot toward inclusive governance.

“This moment is not just about resisting the bad. It is about building the good. We want a Kenya where no child goes hungry, where education is a right, not a privilege, where jobs are not favors given at rallies, but a guarantee for those who work hard,” he said.

“The Future Begins Now”

In an impassioned closing, Babu Owino called on the youth to remain vigilant, organized, and peaceful — but unrelenting.

“The future begins now. This is our moment. The system has feared our silence — but they will fear our unity even more. We are ready to claim the Kenya that belongs to all of us.”
